Working With Harderst-to-Reach Students Host: A. Jordan Wright, PhD, ABPA, ABPP Panelists: Sandra Jurado, M.S., CCC-SLP Natalie Horstman, M.S., CCC-SLP Alisson Reber, M.S., CCC-SLP, Amber Izrael, Ed.D This course focuses on four different populations of children/students who are often assumed to be a "bad fit" for virtual services (education and support services) and telehealth. Evidence-based strategies will be presented for four populations: very young children, kids with attention and executive functioning difficulties, minimally-verbal and nonverbal students, and children with trauma histories and emotional difficulties. Specifically, the presentation will focus on tools and strategies to engage each of these four populations successfully in online education and support work. Learning Objectives: 1. Discuss why populations assumed to be a "bad fit" for online learning and support can in fact be engaged in this work. 2. Describe three evidence-based strategies to effectively engage young children and students with executive functioning or attention problems in online education and support services. 3. Describe three evidence-based strategies to effectively engage minimally verbal, nonverbal, and students with emotional difficulties in online education and support services.
