Konya'da bisiklet tramvayı raylarda

The era of bicycle trams and buses equipped with bicycle racks has begun in Konya. The Konya Metropolitan Municipality, which boasts Turkey's longest bicycle path network at 550 kilometers, has converted one of the nostalgic trams that have been a burden for years into a bicycle tram, making it available to cyclists. The Konya Metropolitan Municipality has also installed bicycle racks on 50 buses in the first phase. These buses also allow for rides by hanging bicycles from the rear racks. Cyclists in Konya can now choose bicycle trams and buses equipped with bicycle racks, especially for long distance travel or for extended periods of time on their bikes during cold weather. The Metropolitan Municipality has converted one of the veteran trams, which served the people of Konya from 1992 to 2015, into a bicycle tram. While in some countries, bicycles can be used on passenger trams, the bicycle tram, which is exclusively for cyclists, distinguishes Konya from others in this respect. Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay stated that the importance of cycling has been recognized, especially during the pandemic, saying, “We have implemented very important projects to make Konya a bicycle city. With 550 kilometers of bicycle path, Konya boasts the longest bicycle path in Turkey. As of today, we are working to implement new projects. We hope to build an additional 84 kilometers of bicycle path by 2023. Konya is a significant bicycle city in Turkey. From now on, we will continue to implement studies and projects to further emphasize this. We are particularly working on bicycle parking.” Altay noted that one tram is dedicated solely to bicycles, and said: “A very important project is coming to life today. For the first time in Turkey, you will be able to travel with your bicycle on a tram, a public transportation vehicle.” We've converted one of our trams into a bicycle-only tram. Now, you can simply ride your bike to the stop, board it, and go wherever you want, according to the schedules you'll see on the Smart Public Transportation System. You'll be able to run your errands with your bike and then ride the tram back to your desired stop. We're delighted to be implementing another model application in Turkey. This will be a new beginning for our cyclists and a significant awareness-raising initiative in the city. This tram will operate continuously as a bicycle tram, forming a ring around the city. I hope it will be beneficial to our city. We hope that cycling will be actively used in all our cities in Turkey. As Konya Metropolitan Municipality, we will continue to be a pioneer and leader in this regard. 21 BICYCLES CAN BE CARRIED Several revisions were made to transform the tram into a bicycle tram. The double seats of the nostalgic tram were removed and replaced with bicycle racks. The racks, which allow for the safe transport of 21 bicycles at a time, were designed for hands-free operation. Folding hydraulic ramps that work in sync with the doors were installed on the tram's steps. This allows passengers to easily get on and off the tram at stops with their bicycles. The tram, which will operate on the Alaaddin-Selçuk University tram line, will pick up and drop off passengers at stops integrated with bike paths. BUSES ARE ALSO BECOMING BICYCLE-ACCOMMODATED Konya Metropolitan Municipality, a role model for Turkey in public transportation, has launched the bicycle-accessible era for its buses used in urban transportation. To promote increased cycling, bicycle racks have been installed on the rear of the buses. Initially implemented on 50 buses, the project will soon be rolled out to all buses. It will serve on buses. #news #agenda #breakingnews
