Unable to tolerate this situation, dozens of residents have filed a complaint with the Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD) seeking a solution. The Speaker of the Trenggalek DPRD, Doding Rahmadi, explained that the main problem with the silting of the river in Temon Hamlet, Ngares Village, stems from the remaining materials from the Bagong Dam construction. These materials were carried by floodwaters and buried the river, almost leveling residential areas. This situation has persisted since 2022. "We discovered that the river in Temon Hamlet, which previously had a depth of up to five meters and served as a tourist attraction, is now covered in hundreds of thousands of cubic meters of rock. The river has almost disappeared," said Doding. Also present at the hearing were representatives from the Bagong Dam project, the contractor, the Brantas River Basin Agency (BBWS), Commission III of the Trenggalek DPRD, and members of the DPRD leadership. The results of the hearings revealed several solutions to address this problem. According to Doding, four steps will be taken. The first is upstream material management. "The pile of material in the upstream area must be addressed immediately to prevent it from continuing to be washed away by the water. This is the first step that must be taken," he said. The second step is river restoration in Temon Hamlet. The buried river will be restored to a depth of five meters. "There are 11 families who are highly vulnerable to the impacts of flooding. In the meantime, we will build embankments while waiting for the completion of permanent restoration," he added. The third step is social assistance for affected residents. In this case, the local government will provide social assistance to those affected by the flood. Fourth, a long-term study is required. "The long-term management study is currently underway, conducted by a consultant. Hopefully, this study will be completed soon so that a clear picture of a permanent solution can be provided," Doding emphasized. In addition to the river filling in Ngares Village, small materials carried by the current also have the potential to block the Ngasinan River, which flows through the city of Trenggalek. As a result, the potential for flooding extends to residential areas along the river. This situation has caused concern among residents, as the flooding not only inundates homes but also has the potential to damage public facilities and pose health risks. The Trenggalek Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD) is also committed to overseeing the recommendations from the hearings to ensure their swift implementation.
