Last time, at the starting point of the Bando A route on Nodokbong, I had to turn back. With no protection gear in place, it was just the rock and me left alone. In the face of that overwhelming fear, giving up was not shameful — it was a choice for survival. But the memory kept lingering in my mind. I wanted to know whether that fear had real substance, or if it was merely an illusion created by my own mind. So I returned. Without a rope, without a partner, without any safety equipment, I stood before the route once again, entrusting my life only to my two chalk-covered hands. Every move, every breath brought intense tension, but I focused on controlling the fear within me. To some, a 5.8 grade may seem easy, but facing Bando A alone in a solo climb was anything but easy. When I finally overcame the fear and stood on the summit, the view of Bukhansan felt clearer and more vivid than ever before.
