Rods & Pistons In — Checking Every Bearing Clearance Before It's Too Late | 3UZ-FE Build Ep.8

The bottom end of the 3UZ-FE V8 comes together — all eight rods and pistons installed, with every rod bearing clearance checked and verified before a single bolt gets torqued. This is the step you don't rush. A rod bearing clearance that's out of spec by a few tenths of a thousandth won't announce itself until the engine is sealed up, running, and at temperature. By then it's too late. We measure every journal with Plastigauge, confirm against the target clearance range, and only then do the rods go home for good. 💡 WHY PLASTIGAUGE? Plastigauge is a wax thread that deforms under bearing crush and reads back as a width — wider crush means less clearance, narrower means more. It's not as precise as a micrometer and bore gauge combination, but on a rebuild like this where we've already measured the journals and bores individually, Plastigauge serves as a final confirmation that the assembled clearance is what the math said it would be. It's the check on the check. 📺 FULL 3UZ-FE / E82 V8 SWAP BUILD PLAYLIST: 📸 FOLLOW THE BUILD: Instagram: axlworks #3UZFE #EngineBuild #RodBearings #PistonInstall #Plastigauge #BearingClearance #ToyotaV8 #BMWE82 #EngineRebuild #V8Build #GarageBuilt #BottomEnd
