In this series, GM Ivan Sokolov will discuss the topic of material imbalances in chess. We learned that the value of the pieces is based on a point system. However, chess is a very complex game and often material imbalances can occur. Based on the point system, we learned that a queen is worth about two rooks and that three pawns have the same value as a bishop or knight. Depending on the position this evaluation might change and is only an approximation. In this series, we are going to discuss two cases of material imbalances. In the first two videos we take a look at queen sacrifices connected with material imbalances, followed by the next two videos which cover exchange sacrifices. In this video, GM Ivan Sokolov will cover a variant in the Gruenfeld Defense where black fights with a queen against a rook, knight and bishop. You will learn typical strategies on how to play this variant based on grandmaster games. Summary: A general advice for the Gruenfeld variation with White: If you are playing with three pieces against the queen and a number of pawns, the coordination of the pieces is crucial. Don’t be in a hurry to grab your material back. Be more focused on coordination of the pieces. If you play this variation with Black: You have the queen and pawns, try to push those pawns as far as you can in order to take space. The more space you take, the more difficult will it be for the side with the rook and two minor pieces to coordinate the power of those pieces against the queen. 📘 The pgn to this video can be downloaded on our website! ✏️ Don't miss to solve the provided exercises for this video on our website! — ⭐️ Social Media Links: Twitter:   / chessfactor   Facebook:   / chessfactorofficial   Lichess: https://lichess.org/@/chessfactor Twitch:   / chessfactor   — ♛ Chess Set Links: ➡️ Green chess set: https://www.bestchesssetever.com/coll... ➡️ Wooden chess set: https://www.chessware.de/Schachfigure... — #Chess #Chessfactor #ChessfactorAdvanced #MaterialImbalances
