But are they creatively enriching or ultimately just a money-making scheme? Florian was very well prepared and brought a whole range of examples. He and Jasmin discuss when licenses truly add value. Lovecraft titles or grand adventures in the Star Wars universe demonstrate how powerful it can be when mechanics and narrative fit together. On the other hand, there are adaptations where IPs only seem superficially contrived and nostalgia is deliberately used as a selling point. The conversation also covers the role of nostalgia, the success of Stranger Things, comparisons like Jurassic Park versus other dinosaur games, and current titles like Lorcana. This almost amounts to a small checklist that can be used to distinguish good adaptations from bad ones.
