We explored towns in the Department of Canelones and discovered beautiful places like the Canelón Grande Stream, a Uruguayan waterway that crosses the department. It originates in the Cuchilla Grande mountain range (Uruguay), near the town of San Bautista, and flows into the Santa Lucía River, near the town of Aguas Corrientes. It runs for approximately 35 km. The Canelón Grande dam-bridge was inaugurated in 1955. Route 5 crosses it at kilometer 54, and the dam impounds the stream to supply drinking water to the Montevideo metropolitan area. It also provides irrigation water to nearby rural areas. During the 2022-2023 Uruguayan drought, the dam's flow was reduced, reaching historic lows.
