Can a single night filter enhance stars, boost H-alpha, and reduce light pollution? In this video, I test the Capture The Night, Dan Zafra's night filter, to see if it can truly function as an all-in-one tool for night photography, nightscapes, and time-lapses. I conducted real-world tests with and without the filter in particularly interesting areas of the sky, such as the Cygnus region and the Zeta Ophiuchi area, where the presence of Hydrogen Alpha makes it easier to see if the filter makes a real difference. The idea wasn't to conduct a lab test, but rather to see how it performs in a real-world night photography workflow, using astro-modified cameras, fast lenses, and scenes designed for landscapes and time-lapses. In the video, I discuss three main points: how it affects starglow whether it actually enhances H-alpha light and how much it helps with light pollution. And here's a heads-up: for me, the most interesting thing about this filter isn't just the technical aspect, but the visual finish it gives to the stars. That subtle, elegant, and understated glow can be very useful in night photography, but especially in nighttime time-lapses, where stars often appear small, cold, or overly digital.
