Is Abruzzo Italy's best kept secret?

I'm always searching for a new and exciting location in Italy, one that offers the "Sojourn Trifecta" - spectacular natural wonders, a rich, intriguing history and amazing local culinary specialties. I found all of this in the region of Abruzzo and because this incredible region is only 2 hours outside of Rome, a visit can be an amazing add-on trip! On this day of exploration, I covered lots of ground and traveled many, many miles. I started in Navelli at B&B Abruzzo Segreto and continued to Ofena where I enjoyed a delicious lunch at Agristurismo Sapore De Campagna. Afterwords, I traveled north to one of Italy's most stunning national parks; Gran Sasso national park and hiked to the top of a mountain with an unforgettable view of the mighty Gran Sasso - the tallest peak in the Italian Apennine mountain chain.
