In the Sundarbans, the world’s largest mangrove forest, fishing is a way of life shaped by tides, danger and poverty. Among the nomadic fishermen of Bangladesh, Anil preserves one of the rarest fishing traditions in the world: working with trained otters. Kept aboard the boat and released at low tide, the otters drive fish toward the nets, helping men survive in a hostile aquatic jungle. But the catch is shrinking. Pesticides, intensive rice farming and pressure on the ecosystem have emptied waters that once fed entire families. Pirates, cyclones, forest patrols and Bengal tigers make life in the Sundarbans even more precarious. On the riverbanks, children like Bishaka fish before school to help their families, while villages pray to the water goddess for protection. A portrait of people living between river and forest, where survival depends on animals, tides, courage and ancient knowledge.
