Nobody Fishes Here... And It's Their Loss (Trout Fishing the Driftless)
Fly Fishing the driftless in Wisconsin for wild brown trout!! Fly Fishing creeks most people walk right past is something I take great pleasure in. There’s just something about those tiny creeks, sometimes hidden in plane sight, that produce some of my most memorable catches. The driftless, at least from what I’ve seen, is full of those creeks that often get ignored. Whether they’re nestled in a farm field surrounded by cattle, or a quaint little camp ground, these creeks can produce some rather impressive fish. Welcome back to another video. So this video starts off fishing with Erik in a small creek in some tall grass of what I assume was an old farm field but I wouldn’t know because I couldn’t see anything. In fact from the road you wouldn’t even hardly know this creek was here, which made it feel like you had your own personal fishing paradise. Unfortunately nobody told the fish about the fact that it was supposed to be paradise, so we struggled at first. We found a few fish, but It wasn’t until we came up to a hay field that we started finding trout with any consistency, but the casting was tough to say the least. Shortly after I caught that incredible fish we ran out of good water on that creek, at least in the section we were fishing. So we decided to switch creeks and spend some more time on the tiny creek in the middle of the campground that I had fished the day prior. We got some funny looks while fishing this one, because it’s really only a trickle of water and from any angle other than standing in the creek it looks kind of silly to be fishing it. So yeah, I don’t think it gets much better than that personally. Fishing those tiny creeks can be a blast, especially since they typically receive less pressure than the surrounding water meaning a lot of times the fish are easier to catch. I’d love to know what the campers or the people driving by were thinking, because I’m sure it looked funny watching us cast into the grass. But that was my last day in the driftless, at least for now. I fished 2 creeks on my last day both being incredible small spring creeks loaded with some incredible wild brown trout. Let me know in the comments below if you want me to come back and fish the driftless again this year, because honestly I’m tempted to plan out another trip. Thanks for watching!
