Deputy Prime Minister Yotsanun Wongsawat, dressed in traditional "Sri Kotaboon" fabric, supported local handicrafts and participated in a spectacular procession honoring Phaya Sri Sattanakarat, even joining in a lively dance under the clear sky to promote tourism in Nakhon Phanom. //////// Today (July 12th), Prof. Dr. Yotsanun Wongsawat, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), along with his delegation, visited Nakhon Phanom Province to deliver policies on higher education, monitor progress on community economic development projects, and inspect a comprehensive health service center. He also promoted policies to upgrade tourism based on cultural capital, highlighting Nakhon Phanom's potential and unique strengths in many aspects. Later, at 4:00 PM, Prof. Dr. Yotsanun presided over the procession and offered offerings to Phaya Sri Sattanakarat, accompanied by dancers from That Phanom District. The event was attended by heads of government departments, civil servants, and officials from various sectors, including the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, the Ministry of Transport, the National Office of Buddhism, the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Labour, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, and the Ministry of Energy; Ms. Monporn Charoensri, former Deputy Minister of Transport and Member of Parliament for Nakhon Phanom Province, one of the key figures in promoting the Faculty of Medicine, Sri Kotaboon Campus, Nakhon Phanom University; Mr. Chanchai Khamjampa, Member of Parliament for Nakhon Phanom Province; Mr. Anuchit Hongsadee, President of the Nakhon Phanom Provincial Administrative Organization; as well as a group of people born on Sunday, totaling over 6,000 participants. The ceremony included seven sets of traditional dances, the final of which featured a joint dance between local residents and tourists to express their faith and devotion to Phaya Sri Sattanakarat, and to promote tourism on the island. "The Path of Faith," a significant traditional event in Nakhon Phanom province, is held annually on the 7th day of the 7th lunar month. This year, it was scheduled from July 7th to 13th, 2026. The grand event each year attracts a continuous stream of dignitaries and tourists, positively impacting the local economy and generating significant revenue. The overall atmosphere during the ceremony was smooth, amidst clear and sunny weather – a welcome relief given the frequent thunderstorms in the area during the week of the event. The favorable weather also created a lively and warm atmosphere, particularly during the final dance performance. Professor Dr. Yotsanan joined a group of thousands of dancers in a friendly and impressive display, bringing smiles to the faces of the locals and tourists who came to witness this beautiful tradition. Another highlight of the event was Professor Dr. Yotsanan's attire of the "Sri Kotaboon costume," originating from the ancient Sri Kotaboon Kingdom in the Mekong River basin. This costume blends history with traditional weaving techniques, crafted from indigo-dyed silk or cotton.
