I guess it's the same as the "pack" in a backpack. If you call a backpack a "bag" just because it's a backpack, it becomes a backpack, which makes it a bit confusing. If people who carry backpacks are called backpackers, then I'll call myself a dog carrying packer. ...What are you talking about?!
