Autismus vs. kPTBS: gleiches Verhalten, völlig andere Gründe

Autism or CPTSD? Why the two are so often confused – and what you really need to pay attention to – Prof. Ashok Riehm www.prof-ashok-riehm.de Many people seem socially exhausted, sensitive to stimuli, easily overwhelmed, misunderstood, or rigid in their routines. Some avoid groups, need a lot of solitude, are sensitive to noise, or suddenly break down internally under too much stimulation. From the outside, it can look similar. But the internal logic can be completely different. In this video, I'll show you why autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and complex post-traumatic stress disorder (CPTSD) are so often confused – and what you really need to pay attention to when differentiating between them. I will discuss seven common points of confusion with you, including: – social withdrawal – sensory overload – routines, rigidity, and control – difficulties in relationships – meltdown, collapse, and emotional crises – self-image and shame – exhaustion This isn't just about what looks similar, but more importantly, about why it looks that way. Because not everything that looks like autism is autism. And not everything that looks like trauma is trauma. In this article, you will learn: how ASD and complex PTSD differ in their internal logic, why sensory sensitivity isn't always the same, why withdrawal can be a form of sensory protection in one case and a form of relationship protection in the other, why shame is often structural in complex PTSD but frequently secondary in ASD, and why it's so important diagnostically to ask: How long has this pattern been present? Furthermore, this video addresses a particularly important point: ASD and complex PTSD can co-occur. Especially in such cases, a nuanced and mature diagnosis is needed, one that takes developmental history, context, function, and subjective experience seriously. If you recognize yourself or someone close to you in these descriptions, this video can help you understand inner connections more clearly. I am Professor Ashok Riehm. This channel focuses on trauma, attachment, narcissism, complex PTSD, shame, self-esteem, and the psychodynamic logic of inner states.
