Man, am I excited to bring you this one! Maybe my favourite lead playing lesson so far! Another quick-fire lesson, this time focusing on soulful Major Pentatonic soloing over a major blues or soul groove, drawing inspiration from the playing of B.B. King, Derek Trucks, John Mayer, Duane Allman and Billy Gibbons. Using just a handful of carefully chosen notes from the Major Pentatonic scale, alongside some simple triads, we’ll explore how sparse phrasing and maximum expression can make your solos genuinely sing. Your string bending and vibrato techniques will get a hefty workout in this one, as will your ability to phrase ideas in a lyrical and emotive way. The materials for this will NOT include any note for note transcriptions of my free-form improvisations seen at the start of the video, but they will contain my backing track and also TAB/Notation of the concepts discussed within. ⏱️TIMESTAMPS⏱️ 00:00 - Performance 01:12 - Introduction 03:03 - The Changes + Target Notes 03:42 - Expression via Technique 04:56 - Broader Concepts + Patreon 05:50 - Bends on top of Bends! 06:41 - Vibrato 06:59 - More Triad based ideas - Jimmy Page style! 07:34 - Introducing some minor pentatonic 07:59 - Wes Montgomery 08:15 - Next Triad Position 08:57 - Next position; big bends! 09:30 - Trust Your Ears! 09:38 - Blending Major & Minor Pentatonics 09:57 - Repeatable 12 frets down 10:22 - New position; Jerry Reed vibes 11:03 - What about the G chord?! 11:52 - Blues Scale as a form on tension 13:18 - Thoughts 13:41 - Tone Talk! 15:03 - Workshop Companion books!
