GRACE COE - MECH - ME8361 - MANUFACTURING TECHNOLOGY LAB - I – EXPT - 5 - EXTERNAL THREAD CUTTING

Principle is to produce helical groove on a cylindrical or conical surface by feeding tool longitudinally when job is rotating.Thread is ridge of uniform cross section in the form of a helix provided on the inside of a cylindrical or conical surface.External threads are provided on bolts, screw. Thread cutting on the lathe is a process that produces a helical ridge of uniform section on the workpiece. This is performed by taking successive cuts with a threading toolbit the same shape as the thread form required.
