Gospel of the Day Sunday, July 19, 2026 Audio Gospel of the day in Italian with commentary by    / @frastefano   Liturgy of the Word today, from the Gospel according to Matthew Glory to you, O Lord Mt 13:24-30 At that time, Jesus put before the crowds another parable, saying: "The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field. But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away. So when the plants came up and bore grain, then the weeds appeared also. Then the servants of the householder came and said to him, 'Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? Where did these weeds come from?' He answered them, 'An enemy has done this.' The servants said to him, 'Do you want us to go and gather them?' “No,” he replied, “lest in gathering the weeds you uproot the wheat along with them. Let both grow together until the harvest, and at harvest time I will say to the reapers, ‘First gather the weeds and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn.’” Word of the Lord Praise to you, O Christ New things are scary. Something different happens, a new way of doing things is born, a person takes an unusual path… and immediately someone thinks, “This is not from God.” It’s a bit like what happens in the Gospel: in the good field, weeds also grow, and the servants want to pull them out immediately. But the master stops them: “Let them grow together until the harvest.” Let’s think of Saint Francis. At first, many looked at him with suspicion: a young man who leaves everything, lives in poverty, wanders the streets preaching… it almost seemed like madness. Yet that very path, which to many seemed strange and even dangerous, has opened a new path in the Church, bringing the Gospel back to the center. This is also true within us. There are moments in our lives that we immediately judge as negative: a crisis, a fall, a wound, a period of confusion. We want to tear it all away immediately. But God often works at a different pace than ours. Sometimes, from a weakness, a truer heart is born. From suffering, compassion is born. From failure, humility is born. And from a difficult journey, a deeper faith is born. Don't be quick to judge everything immediately. Don't condemn yourself or others. God sees what we don't yet see. What seems like weeds today could tomorrow become the place where you discover God's presence in your life. Be patient with yourself, keep walking, keep trusting.
