Rishikesh rafting -Grade 3 rapids almost flipped us .
The 16km Rishikesh Rafting This is not just a joyride. It’s three to four hours of your life where you will laugh, scream, paddle until your arms burn, and sit in complete silence while the river carries you through a canyon. Here’s what the 16km really feels like. Starting Point: Shivpuri Your day starts early. Most rafts push off from Shivpuri, about 16km upstream from Rishikesh town. It’s 8 or 9 AM, the sun is already strong, and the Ganga is that insane blue-green color you only see in the mountains. At the put-in point, it’s organized chaos. Dozens of rafts, guides shouting instructions, life jackets being tightened, and a lot of nervous first-timers pretending they are totally fine. Your guide will run through safety drills. How to sit. How to hold the paddle. What to do if you fall out. The command you’ll hear most is “Forward paddle” and “Back paddle”. The one you hope you never hear is “Get down”. That means a big rapid is coming and you need to sit in the raft and hold the safety rope for dear life. Once you push off, the first 10 minutes are calm. This is the Ganga giving you false confidence. The water is cold, the cliffs are huge, and you can see temples tucked into the hills. You’ll think, this is peaceful. Then you hear the roar. The Rapids: Where It Gets Real The 16km stretch has around 9 to 10 named rapids, ranging from Grade II to Grade III+. For beginners, that means they are big enough to soak you and flip a raft if you hit them wrong, but with a good guide you’ll be fine. Next up is “Roller Coaster”. This one is exactly what it sounds like. The raft drops, climbs, and drops again. You will get airtime. You will also get a face full of glacial water that wakes you up better than any coffee. The most famous rapid on this stretch is “Club House”. It’s a Grade III+ and the biggest hit before Rishikesh. The lead-up is quiet, then the river bends and you see a wall of white water. The guide lines you up, everyone digs in, and for 10 seconds you are in pure chaos. When you come out the other side, the whole raft is screaming. Not from fear. From pure adrenaline. The 16km route isn’t just about rapids. Most operators stop at a cliff jumping point near the halfway mark. The jump is around 20 to 25 feet into deep green water. Your guide will go first. Then it’s your turn. The first step off is the hardest. After that, you’ll want to go again. Another highlight is body surfing. On a calm stretch, your guide will tell you to get in the water. You hold your life jacket, lie on your back, and let the current carry you. The water is cold, clean, and fast. For a few minutes you’re not thinking about anything except how alive you feel. This is also when you realize why the Ganga is called holy. It resets you. There’s usually a Maggi break too. Your raft pulls up to a beach, and there’s a small shack selling hot Maggi, tea, and soda. Eating steaming Maggi with sand between your toes, dripping wet, after fighting rapids is a core Rishikesh memory. That’s the magic of this stretch. It’s not just an adventure sport. It’s a story you’ll tell for years. So if you’re on the fence, take this as your sign. Book the 16km. Paddle hard. And when your guide shouts “Get down”, trust the process. thanks for watching. keep loving keep supporting 🙏🏼. see you soon in the next video 📸. #vlogging #rishikesh #rafting #pahadi #uttarakhand #pahadi
