Stan Douglas - Artist Talk

Lecture date: 2008-02-15 Stan Douglas is an internationally renowned photographer, filmmaker and installation artist based in Vancouver. Douglas has exhibited widely since his first solo show in 1981. His work refelects the technical and social aspects of mass media, and since the late 1980s has been largely influenced by the work of Samuel Beckett. Also of concern is both modernism as a theoretical concept and modernity as it has affected North American urbanism since World War II. Douglas has taken part in Documenta and in the Venice Biennale many times. His recent exhibition in Stuttgart, Past Imperfect, showed his principal works of the last 20 years. His work is concerned with the history of places Potsdam, Vancouver, Cuba, Detroit which are reflected through various literary, filmic or musical references.
