The Mithi River - The Great Wall of Mumbai. A case study of Splintered Urbanism by Gautam Kirtane.

The Mithi River - The Great Wall of Mumbai. A case study of Splintered Urbanism by Gautam Kirtane. Drawing from my work on the Mithi River since 2003, I present her as the divider of Mumbai - The Great Wall. Through spatial analysis, it is evident how the formal city distances itself from the informal slum city by leveraging the physical features on the cityscape - the Mithi River and the Railway Lines. The documentary builds a case for pedestrian and cyclist connectivity across these barriers to give fair and just access to the formal city from the slum neighbourhoods.
