"La seguridad no puede esperar al empalme": gobernadora del Chocó tras constantes atentados del ELN

The governor of Chocó, Nubia Carolina Córdoba, called on the national government to address the violent offensive being carried out by the ELN in her department. According to the governor, the region is facing a “terrorist escalation” that has affected at least five municipalities in a coordinated manner, leaving an initial toll of wounded soldiers and a population gripped by fear. One of the most recent attacks occurred this past weekend in Tadó, where ELN members launched explosives from drones at the town's police station. For this reason, the governor asserted that urgent security assistance is needed and that the population cannot wait for the transition of power to implement such measures. “One month is far too long for the community to live with this terror,” Córdoba stated, referring to the time remaining before the official government transition, insisting that strengthening the security forces must be a sustained priority from this moment forward. Coordinated Attacks and Use of Drones The violence, which reportedly intensified during the armed group's 62nd anniversary, began last Thursday with an attack in San José del Palmar, where four soldiers and a police officer were wounded. Since then, the attacks have continued: burning of trucks on the Quibdó-Pereira highway, harassment of military bases in Noanamá, and, more recently, the use of technology to target security forces.
