Jessie Sylvestre grew up in Northern Saskatchewan on the land of Buffalo River Dene Nation. She is a fluent Dene speaker. In July 2022, she was invited to be a part of a team of Indigenous language interpreters who translated the Pope’s apology to residential school Survivors during the live event.
