Tao Expeditions Finding My Way Back

What happens when you leave behind WiFi, mirrors, and the comfort of routine — and trade it all for six days on a pirate ship with 24 strangers and the open sea? I joined a Tao Expedition through the remote islands of Palawan, Philippines — from El Nido to Coron — with my wife and a boat full of people I’d never met. We slept in bamboo huts, bathed in the rain, swam to shore, and shared stories over rice and reef fish. But this wasn’t just a trip. It was a return — to simplicity, to community, and to something I didn’t realize I’d lost. I’m a Filipino who left the country at 18. I’ve lived abroad for years, built a life, seen the world… but somehow, I forgot what it felt like to be Filipino. This expedition brought it all back — through laughter with Kuya Ding Dong, late-night songs with Kuya Josh, basketball games with Kuya Demy, and a love story from Kuya Don Don that mirrored my own. This film is a voice memo to myself — a reminder of who I am, and where home really lives. 🎥 Shot on GH5 Mark II, DJI Mini 4 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro 🎵 Music, field recordings, and raw sound from the journey — 👉 Learn more about Tao Expeditions: https://www.taophilippines.com 💬 Drop a comment: What’s a moment that made you feel close to home — even if you were far from it? 📌 Subscribe for more stories from the edge of the map.
