Paul Reed "The Wonder of Chaco Canyon and the Greater Chaco Landscape"
Join Chaco Culture Conservancy for the first lecture in our 2026 Landscapes & Legacies Lecture Series, featuring Paul Reed, Preservation Archaeologist with Archaeology Southwest. In “The Wonder of Chaco Canyon and the Greater Chaco Landscape,” Paul explores one of the most extraordinary cultural landscapes in the world. Chaco Canyon was a major ceremonial and cultural center for the ancestors of today’s Pueblo peoples, with influence stretching across the Four Corners region. This talk reflects on why Chaco continues to matter today, the sacred traditions and cultural knowledge rooted in this place, and the ongoing threats from oil and gas development facing the Greater Chaco Region. Paul emphasizes the importance of protecting Chaco through Indigenous leadership and voices with deep ancestral connections to the land. About the Speaker: Paul Reed has worked in the Chaco region for over 20 years and is a leading advocate for cultural resource protection. He is the editor of Chaco’s Northern Prodigies. This program is presented by Chaco Culture Conservancy, in collaboration with Archaeology Southwest. Learn more about upcoming lectures and events: https://www.chacoculture.org/events
