On September 26, 2025 YANGA moved from Artis Zoo to Burgers' Zoo. YANGA's INTRODUCTION STARTED ON TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 30, 2025 IN THE INDOOR ENCLOSURE. On September 26, 2025 N'AIKA moved from Burgers' Zoo to Artis Zoo Amsterdam. Details of the Artis Zoo relocations: Purpose: The relocations are part of the European conservation program for western lowland gorillas, which aims to maintain a healthy and genetically robust population. Relocated animals: Two female gorillas from Artis have been relocated to other Dutch zoos to breed. Planning: Artis does not make hasty decisions regarding relocations; the average preparation time is one year. Factors: When deciding on a relocation, Artis Zoo considers genetic information, the animals' personalities and roles, their welfare, the enclosure's facilities, and the wishes of other zoos.
