Nadia Sabri, Director of the Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Arts, talking to some visitors 4. SOUNDBITE (French) Nadia Sabri, Director of the Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Arts: “For a long time, it was anchored in the collective spirit that cultural spaces are reserved for the elites. That was applied to the galleries and museums which people thought were not open to everyone. What we should do now is implement some programs and have moments (events) such as the Museums’ Night that should perpetuate the idea that art is for everyone. I don’t think that organising only one night per year is too little. On the contrary, we see that people are getting used to this event." 5. Various of visitors looking at paintings 6. Moaad Mountassir, art lover and frequent visitor, looking at a painting by artist Mohamed Melehi 7. SOUNDBITE (French) Moaad Mountassir, art lover: ”These exhibition are very important. This opening is also very important but we can do better. We could approach museums in Morocco through schools because they are the real nurseries. If we organize visits by schools and education institutions in cooperation with the Ministry of National education at a larger scale, this will educate the Moroccan citizen (on art) from a younger age, from the primary school and secondary school, (they will learn) that art is a second school." 8. Various of visitors including children 9. Rim Louaidi, a banker, taking a picture of a painting 10. SOUNDBITE (French) Rim Louaidi, visitor: “I commend this initiative that enhances all the beauty of the culture and the city of Rabat. It’s true that we don’t always have the opportunity to visit museums, but it is a beautiful opportunity to rediscover the city through culture." 11. SOUNDBITE (French) Yousra al-Fadli, photo artist: ”I am proud to see that photography has started to have an artistic impact in Morocco and it is getting a larger spot. I am honoured that it (exhibition) is celebrating the anniversary of photography in Morocco. I came here especially to get inspired, to see some other works and the signature of other artists. It’s also an honour for me to discover what is happening in the artistic landscape in Rabat." 16. Various of people visiting the photographic exhibition in the Bab Rouah Gallery STORYLINE: Over 60 museums, galleries and cultural venues in 13 cities and towns across Morocco opened their doors on Tuesday night for a public, free of charge, special museum night.
