How do diaphragm seals work? | Areas of application and advantages in pressure measurement
WIKA diaphragm seals can be connected to almost all pressure gauges, process transmitters, pressure switches or pressure sensors. But why are diaphragm seals needed in the first place? Basically, diaphragm seals are used with all pressure measurements where direct contact between the measuring instrument and the medium should be avoided. Furthermore, diaphragm seals (http://bit.ly/2SdSAIT) are also used if the measuring point is located in a hard-to-reach place where the measuring instrument cannot be mounted or read. In both cases, the pressure acting is transmitted to the measuring instrument via a system fill fluid within the case of the diaphragm seal. The seals’ diaphragms can be made of different materials such as stainless steels, Hastelloy, Monel or tantalum. Furthermore, coatings with ECTFE, PFA or gold are also possible. Diaphragm seals, coated with our patented Wikaramic®, are highly resistant to wear and can thus also withstand abrasive media. The optimal diaphragm seal designs, materials, system fill fluids and accessories are available for each application. The configuration of the combination of pressure measuring instruments and diaphragm seals depends, among other things, on the application conditions in which the diaphragm seal system must work. For the diaphragm seals, test certificates and approvals for special applications can be supplied. No matter how complex the requirements seem, diaphragm seals can be flexibly adapted to the respective measuring conditions.
