F1 1986 Round 15 | Mexican GP Full Race

The 1986 Mexican Grand Prix — October 12, Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez 📌 Visit our Racing & Beyond Blog for more stories: https://racingbeyond.com/ The fifteenth round of the 1986 Formula One World Championship marked Mexico's return to the F1 calendar after a sixteen-year absence, held at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City. With only two races remaining, the drivers' title was still wide open: Nigel Mansell led with 70 points, ahead of Alain Prost on 64 and Nelson Piquet on 63. Qualifying delivered a statement result — Ayrton Senna put his Lotus-Renault on pole, ahead of Piquet and Mansell in the Williams-Hondas, with Gerhard Berger's Benetton-BMW in fourth. Race day, however, took an immediate and decisive turn. At the start, Mansell accidentally selected third gear instead of first, falling from third on the grid to eighteenth by the end of lap one. Piquet and Senna led early, but the abrasive surface proved punishing on Goodyear tyres — Piquet would stop three times, Senna twice, and Prost once. Berger, running on harder Pirelli compounds, made no stops at all — a bold strategy that paid off completely. He crossed the line first in 1:33:18.700, claiming both his maiden Formula One victory and Benetton's first-ever win. Prost finished second, Senna third. Mansell recovered to fifth, enough to preserve his championship lead heading into the season finale in Adelaide. Fastest lap of the race went to Nelson Piquet — 1:19.360 on lap 64. 📌 If you’re passionate about untold racing stories, forgotten heroes, and iconic Grand Prix moments that shaped the sport, please, consider subscribing to the channel and turn on notifications.
