Fever is a topic that concerns many parents, and without the right information, it can also be confusing about what steps to take to reduce it. When should you consider a fever? Fever in babies, which is when the temperature is above 37.5°C (98.8°F). Is a fever a sign of illness? Not always. A rise in temperature can be caused by heat, excessive clothing, teething, or a reaction to a vaccine. When should you worry? The most concerning is when a fever is caused by a viral, fungal, or bacterial infection. In this case, it's most common for the fever to come on quickly and high, and it doesn't subside with simple measures, requiring medication. What are these simple measures? Remove excess clothing from the baby; Offer fluids to the baby, which can be milk or water; Bathe the baby in lukewarm water (36 degrees Celsius); Place towels soaked in cold water on the forehead, nape of the neck, armpits, and groin. When to see a doctor: It is recommended to go to the hospital, emergency room, or consult a pediatrician when: The baby is under 3 months old; The fever exceeds 38°C and the temperature quickly reaches 39.5°C, indicating a possible bacterial infection; There is loss of appetite; The baby sleeps a lot and, when awake, shows signs of intense irritation; The baby has spots or spots on the skin; - The baby cries a lot or stays still for a long time, without any apparent reaction; If there are signs that the baby is having difficulty breathing; If the baby cannot be fed for more than 3 meals; If there are signs of dehydration; If the baby becomes very lethargic and cannot stand or walk; If the baby cannot sleep for more than 2 hours, waking several times during the day or night because they are expected to sleep longer due to a fever.
