On May 31, 1934, the official government radio broadcast was launched. The voice of announcer Ahmed Salem announced, "This is Cairo. This is the inauguration of the official Egyptian government wireless radio station." This was done in agreement with the Marconi Company. However, in 1947, the contract with Marconi was canceled. The number of Egyptian radio stations initially was four, and it has now reached ten.
