Trauma Overview Part IV: Blast Injuries Explained | EMT Chapter 25
Part IV is dedicated to blast trauma and breaks down primary, secondary, tertiary, and quaternary blast injuries in a clear, structured way. The lesson explains how pressure waves, flying debris, body displacement, burns, inhalation injuries, and crush forces create overlapping injury patterns, with special focus on tissues most vulnerable to blast exposure, including the ears, lungs, and gastrointestinal tract. Pulmonary blast injury, arterial air embolism, neurologic injury, and traumatic amputation are also covered to help students recognize why explosion patients may have life-threatening internal injuries even when external wounds appear limited.
