CNBC Indonesia presents an Energy Forum themed "Mitigation Strategies for National Resilience in Response to Global Energy Shocks," which will discuss the role of the energy sector in strengthening national energy security amidst global geopolitical dynamics and energy price volatility. Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahli Lahadalia stated that global geopolitical developments are like malaria, fluctuating and impacting the global economy. Amid this global uncertainty, Indonesia still needs to import 1 million barrels of crude oil per day due to the continued decline in oil and gas lifting. This is due to the aging of oil wells. Therefore, three measures can be taken to increase oil and gas lifting: the use of technology, accelerating oil and gas well exploration in Eastern Indonesia, with 118 potential new oil and gas blocks, and reactivating idle wells. Bahli also stated that Indonesia currently consumes 39 million kiloliters of diesel fuel. To reduce diesel imports, the government is promoting downstream palm oil production through the development of B50 Biodiesel, which will begin on July 1, 2026. Indonesia also consumes 40 million kiloliters of gasoline, necessitating efforts to reduce gasoline imports from Singapore and Malaysia. However, Bahlil also ensured that the government would not raise the price of subsidized fuel, which currently reaches IDR 200-250 trillion, with the aim of protecting the poor. Regarding the increase in non-subsidized fuel prices, Bahlil stated that this is normal because its users are wealthy. LPG consumption currently stands at 8.5 million tons per year, with production of only 1.8 million tons, resulting in IDR 150 trillion in foreign exchange outflows for LPG imports. Therefore, the government is encouraging the use of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as a solution. Bahlil also discussed the recent power outages experienced by PLN (State Electricity Company) in several regions due to the use of coal, which requires securing its procurement to ensure a secure electricity supply.
