An intersectional perspective on the persistence of sexism and racism at universities

Keynote lecture by Bontu Lucie Guschke (Copenhagen Business School) held at the closing conference of the P-7 program, Bern, November 8, 2024 Higher education institutions have been, and continue to be, important sites for feminist and anti-racist struggles for equality and justice, and simultaneously paramount settings for the reproduction of sexism and racism. This keynote lecture provides insights into how sexist and racist harassment and discrimination are reproduced intersectionally in workplaces at universities. It discusses how harassment and discrimination remain imperceptible and unspeakable, while also drawing out implications for more effective anti-harassment and anti-discrimination work in higher education. Bontu Lucie Guschke, lecturer at Copenhagen Business School, queer feminist researcher, and anti-discrimination facilitator, conducts research in the area of queer and anti-racist feminist theory. Her research interests include intersectional feminist organizational analyses, queer feminist and norm-critical theory, anti-/racism research, feminist epistemologies, and the interplay of discourse and affect analysis. The keynote lecture is based on her recently published dissertation “The Persistence of Sexism and Racism at Universities. Exploring the Imperceptibility and Unspeakability of Workplace Harassment and Discrimination in Academia”. https://www.bontu-guschke.com/en https://www.gendercampus.ch/fr/ttgd/a...
