2025 Iowa Hospital Association Hospital Heroes: Teri Hanna, Davis County Hospital and Clinics

Since 2007, IHA’s Hospital Heroes program has celebrated employees who have acted courageously in a moment’s crisis or who have selflessly served their hospitals and communities throughout their careers. Wednesday, Oct. 8, IHA recognized this year’s hospital heroes at its annual meeting. One of these heroes is Teri Hanna, Davis County Hospital and Clinics. For more than 25 years, Hanna has poured her energy, heart and expertise into emergency medical services. Today, as the Emergency Medical Services Manager at Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield, she leads her team and collaborates with them, showing by example what it means to serve with dedication. Hanna believes emergency medical services is more than a job — it’s a life choice. Her career reflects that philosophy. From providing excellent patient care across multiple counties to building strong partnerships with schools and community groups, Hanna has made emergency medical services a pathway of service, education and opportunity. She co-created the Call 911 program that educated thousands of second graders about emergency response, and she helped develop an emergency medical services internship program that gives high school students firsthand training and a career path. Always innovative, Hanna makes learning fun — from escape room-style training labs to online game-based learning competitions. She even takes time on vacation to learn from other clinics and brings innovative ideas home. Her passion for teaching extends to classes in basic life support, advanced cardiovascular life support and pediatric advanced life support, ensuring the next generation of providers is well prepared. With her energy, vision and infectious enthusiasm, Hanna has transformed emergency medical services in southeast Iowa and inspired countless future caregivers.
