The 9500i is the smallest model in John Deere's large forage harvester series and was launched in 2022. The dimensions of the harvester are impressive. With the 42-inch high and 900 mm wide tires, the front wheels alone are over 214 cm high. This makes the machine also 3.50 m wide. In corn, the 9500i has an operating weight of a good 23 tons. The intake chamber is 83 cm wide, and the DuraDrum drum with its 64 knives is 85 cm wide. Our test machine lacks nothing in terms of equipment except for the automatic unloading system. The HarvestLab 3000 harvesting laboratory with an NIR sensor continuously determines the moisture and content of the forage during harvesting. Of course, we also measured the throughput of the John Deere forage harvester. With a short 4 mm cutting length, the 9500i harvests 240 tons of fresh mass per hour. With a 13 mm cutting length, the forage harvester can load a maximum of 284 tons per hour onto the trailer. That's over 100 tons of dry matter and over 5 hectares of harvested area per hour. All in all, very good figures, which are at the top end of this forage harvester class. These high throughputs are made possible by the new John Deere JD18X engine. Uniquely among forage harvesters, the engine operates without AdBlue or a particulate filter. At a rated speed of 1,800 rpm, the unit produces 700 hp. In operation, however, the engine is pushed to 1,400 rpm and lower. At this point, the six-cylinder engine adds another 65 hp. With a diesel consumption of 0.45 to 0.54 liters per ton of fresh matter, the 9500i performs very well. The twelve-row 490plus corn header from Kemper feeds the 9500i very reliably with its six large drums. The header pulls powerfully under all conditions. The John Deere 9000 series receives excellent marks for its height adjustment, spacious work area, and excellent all-round visibility. From the steering wheel to the comfortable and ventilated leather seat, all information and documentation from HarvestLab and HarvestDoc, as well as GPS data and camera images, are displayed on the 4640 monitor. Overall, John Deere has achieved a great success in this horsepower class with its 9500i. With a list price of a whopping €870,000 in test configuration, the 9500i isn't exactly a bargain on the forage harvester market.
