VTC News | Data from the Russian Central Bank shows that the country has just experienced its sharpest gold reserve reduction in at least a quarter of a century. As of early July 2026, Russia's gold reserves stood at only 73.4 million ounces (approximately 2,282 tons), a decrease of 1.4 million ounces, or 43.5 tons, compared to the beginning of the year. This also marks the sixth consecutive month of decline in the national gold reserves after years of Moscow pursuing a strategy of accumulating the precious metal to cope with Western sanctions.
