Colombian President Gustavo Petro has publicly asked Brazil to expand the international Pix system. In a post on X, the Colombian leader defended the adoption of the instant payment system as an alternative to traditional international financial mechanisms. “I ask Brazil to extend the Pix system to Colombia. Hopefully, they will stop considering the OFAC list, which no longer works,” Petro wrote. In the same message, he criticized the United States' sanctions model, stating that the instrument “is no longer a weapon against drug trafficking” and that criminal organizations manage to circumvent these restrictions by operating in international financial centers.
