with what we have

“WITH WHAT WE HAVE” 2 performers on stage No technicians necessary (the performers set the space, lights, and sound during the performance) WITH WHAT WE HAVE is an improvised theatre-dance duet by Stella Zannou and Alexander Carrillo. The piece was originally developed for an adult audience, but it communicates through body, images, and emotions, making it also accessible for children and young audiences. The starting point of the work was a simple question: What emerges when we work only with what is already present in the space? Found objects, simple materials, bodies, and voices become the foundation of the performance. Even the surround-sound experience is created using everyday devices such as mobile phones and tablets instead of professional technology. This reduction is both an aesthetic choice and a reflection on the current reality of the independent performing arts scene. At the center is an emotional journey created through improvisation in the present moment. The performers move together with the audience through different emotional states — from playfulness and laughter to vulnerability, anger, tenderness, and sadness. The boundary between stage and audience is intentionally dissolved, allowing the spectators not only to observe, but also to become part of the experience. WITH WHAT WE HAVE asks a simple but essential question: What do we truly have — and what makes us human? The piece was presented between November 2024 and July 2025 at PIP Studio (am Flutgraben 3, Berlin) and was also shown at the B12 Festival 2025.
