My parents and I continue our exploration of the most beautiful villages in Bulgaria. In this episode, our journey takes us to one of the most impressive mountain villages in the Kardzhali region of Bulgaria, located in the Borovitsa (Çamdere) area. The village is called Golobrad in Bulgarian and Köse Hasanlar in Turkish. Located very close to the world-famous Star Chitak region, the views we saw on our way to this high-altitude mountain village were breathtaking. The lush green mountains, valleys, forests, and villages visible in the distance once again demonstrated the captivating geography of the Balkans. Upon arriving in the village, we first met an elderly woman tending her cows. We had a lovely conversation with her about village life, past years, and living there. Later, we continued to meet and chat with the villagers as we walked through the village streets. During the trip, we had the opportunity to meet the village headman. He gave us very valuable information about the village's history. He told us that Köse Hasanlar Village has the second oldest mosque in the Kardzhali Sanjak and took us on a tour of the historic mosque. We learned that in the past, caravans traveling towards Ardino and Kardzhali used to stop here, and the village served as an important resting point. Afterwards, we met the men and women who build the garden fences of the village houses. While chatting with them, we learned many interesting facts about the village's past. They showed us old stone tombs said to date back to the Balkan Wars and explained that Köse Hasanlar was once one of the most populous villages in the region. Every piece of information we learned in this beautiful village, where history, nature, and village life intertwine, impressed us even more.
