The 21-year-old tennis player overpowered Donna Vekic of Croatia, 6-2 and 6-3, in Saturday’s gold medal match. In a post-game press conference, Zheng said she had felt even more determined to perform well at the Olympics, as she knew her family and supporters from China considered the Olympic Games more important than any Grand Slam. She said she had “made history” and hoped to have more fun on the court in the future.
