Does the Maranatha Christian Church (ICM) truly preach the Bible? To avoid accusations of taking phrases out of context or making "dishonest cuts," today I decided to do something different: I reacted to and analyzed a complete sermon (15 minutes) by a pastor from the denomination! We watched the video together and conducted a sincere theological analysis of the message, which addressed well-known stories such as God's promise to Abraham and Sarah, the miracle of the Shunammite woman (with the prophet Elisha), and Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem riding on a donkey. But where is the problem? The great error of many modern sermons (and which I point out in this reaction) is superficiality. The message relied on clichés about "waiting for God's timing" (using the old Greek division between Chronos and Kairos), but failed to delve deeper into the biblical text. I explain why the people of Israel did not reject Jesus simply because "He was simple," but because of profound theological issues and misunderstood prophecies. The most important pastoral warning in this video is: preaching Bible stories is not the same as preaching the Gospel! A message that only speaks of "promises" and how "God will act in His time," but that doesn't point to repentance, the cross of Christ, and our salvation, is not the Gospel of Freedom! That's why many young people and new converts in churches like Maranata are growing up without knowing Christ deeply.
