From the first cast the rods were rattling, the bites were constant, and absolutely nothing was playing by the rules. Snags, mystery knocks, stripped baits, weird dead weight… you name it, it happened. Armed with bass rods, three‑hook flappers, salted mackerel, and frozen blacks, we fished the tide down and back up, meeting loads of brilliant people along the way. The weather went from freezing to full‑on summer, the camera nearly got ditched out of embarrassment, and the fish… well… let’s just say they kept me guessing all morning. Did the fresh rigs with razor‑sharp hooks make the difference? Was it tiny dabs, sneaky flounder, or something else teasing the life out of us?
