The investment will maintain a constant water level on the Oder River, improving navigation conditions. ⛴ Flood safety for residents will also be enhanced. 🌊 The work also has an environmentally friendly dimension – it will facilitate fish migration and increase water aeration. 🐟 🛠 Polish Waters Regional Water Management Authority in Gliwice is gradually implementing a number of investments on the Oder Waterway, totaling over PLN 815 million, of which nearly PLN 692 million is EU funding. As part of the ongoing projects, the locks and control rooms on the water stages in Krapkowice and Januszkowice will be modernized, while the outer ports will also be rebuilt. Polish Waters signed agreements for co-financing the modernization of the locks and control rooms on the water stages in Krapkowice and Januszkowice, as well as for the construction of a flap weir on the Nysa Mouth water stage, in August 2021. The agreement was signed at the Center for EU Transport Projects in Warsaw. Work aimed at improving navigability, facilitating facility operation, and improving social facilities is scheduled for the period from September 2020 to July 2023. 🔹 The Odra River weirs in Januszkowice, Wróblin, and Zwanowice are also undergoing comprehensive renovation. The project includes the conversion of three existing sector weirs into flap weirs with hydraulic drives and automatic and remote control. 🔹 A similar scope of work will begin soon on the Krępa, Groszowice, and Dobrzeń facilities. 🔹 A flap weir will also be constructed on the Ujście Nysy barrage, replacing the existing needle-and-tree weir. The Ujście Nysy barrage is the last remaining non-modernized barrage on the Odra River. The modernizations also include supporting structures on each barrage. 📈 The investment aims to develop and improve the Oder inland waterway and to improve low-emission, environmentally friendly transport systems. The Oder River meets Class III waterway standards by ensuring a constant, unchanging water level, guaranteeing navigation on the Oder, and significantly safer passage of floodwaters and ice floes. Polish Waters' projects also include the construction of fish passes for anadromous fish and infrastructure such as pedestrian and bicycle footbridges. Additionally, the historic fish pass and side spillway at the Ujście Nysa barrage will be preserved, and a new fish pass will be constructed. The implementation of these investments provides the waterway manager with certainty regarding the safety of users and operators, as well as greater reliability and trouble-free operation of the solutions used. 👍 The investment will benefit not only navigation but also the natural environment and residents of towns along the Upper Oder in the Opole Voivodeship.
