The Electric School Bus Experiment is Failing: Why They Stopped Buying Them #schoolbustalk

This episode of School Bus Talk reacts to a news story by the CBC out of Prince Edward Island, Canada, where the Minister of Education Robin Croucher directed that the provincial government is ceasing further purchases of electric school buses due to reliably issues when compared to diesel fueled buses. This reaction video is a continuation in the on-going controversy in New York State where parents complained that children were freezing on electric school buses during the wintertime because drivers are turning off bus heaters in order to conserve battery capacity. The report discusses the bankruptcy of Lion Electric bus manufacturer and how they are a struggling brand. Lion Electric declared bankruptcy in 2024 which left over 3000 school buses without warranty. Lion Electric buses also have a reputation for a fire problem and catching fire due to a design flaw. Meanwhile in New York State, the State Senate recently blocked an effort to repeal the mandate to fully convert all school buses to electric by 2035. School Bus Talk has a series of videos on real life experience operating a 2021 Bluebird Electric school bus for 18 months in 2023. It is School Bus Talk's position that electric school buses have a role in the student transport system which is restricted to in-town route, however the current electric school bus technology does not have the range to do rural routes or field trips especially in regions with cold winter weather.
