Colm Tóibín’s Laureate for Irish Fiction Annual Lecture 2024

On Sunday 3 November at VISUAL Carlow, Laureate for Irish Fiction Colm Tóibín delivered his third annual lecture entitled 'Taking a COLOUR for a Walk'. This event featured Tóibín offering a reflection on the visual artists who have influenced him. With an introduction by Director of the Arts Council Maureen Kennelly and contributions from artists Robert Armstrong and Mary McIntyre, the lecture offers an insight into the intersection of visual art and literature through the lens of one of Ireland’s foremost writers. The accompanying Laureate exhibition ‘Quietly Dispelling the Dark’ will run until 19 January 2025 at VISUAL Carlow. The works featured in this exhibition have been personally chosen by the Laureate from the Arts Council collection.
