AVALIAÇÃO HYUNDAI HB20 1.0 COMFORT 2026 - Melhor custo-benefício ou ultrapassado?

And right off the bat, the question arises: Is it still worth buying a basic 1.0 naturally aspirated hatchback for over R$ 90,000? To answer that, let's talk about the pros and cons and see all the details of this car that has always been one of the best-selling in Brazil. VERSIONS Since the 2026 model year, the Hyundai HB20 has had its versions simplified. The Sense version, which was the most basic until then, was discontinued, and now the Comfort is the cheapest. With this, it gained equipment, but also became a little more expensive. According to the Hyundai website, an HB20 like this costs around R$ 96,000. Above that, we have the Limit version, which can also be equipped with a 1.0 naturally aspirated engine and manual transmission or with an automatic transmission and the 1.0 turbo engine. And finally, we have the Platinum version, which is the top-of-the-line version of the HB20, which is much better equipped. For example, it comes with autonomous emergency braking, leather seats, LED headlights and taillights, and so on, but it already costs a whopping 130,000 reais. ENGINE Under the hood, we have a very well-known engine among Brazilians: the 1.0 naturally aspirated three-cylinder engine from the Kappa family. It's basically the same engine that the Hyundai HB20 has used since its launch. It generates 80 horsepower on ethanol, 75 on gasoline, and 10.2 kg/fm of torque on both fuels. Which guarantees a very honest performance for the category. For those who like numbers, according to the technical specifications, it goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 14.5 seconds and reaches 161 km/h. If it's not an impressive performance, at least it gets the job done. But here's a tip. If you're someone who drives a lot on highways and always has a full car, I would try the version with the Turbo engine, as the difference in performance, especially in acceleration, is quite significant. And it's worth remembering: performance is also about safety, especially when overtaking. Speaking of maintenance, as we mentioned, this is the same engine that the HB20 has used since 2012. It has already proven to be resistant and quite robust. A positive point is that it uses a timing chain, which in theory reduces long-term maintenance costs. The engine compartment is well organized, with everything well positioned — which even facilitates maintenance. TRANSMISSION The transmission is a 5-speed manual with excellent gear changes. They are precise, short, and very helpful when driving. For me, it's the second-best manual transmission on the market, only losing to Volkswagen's, but only by a small margin! Another positive point is that the clutch is very light, which helps a lot in everyday driving. The only downside is that it could have a sixth gear, right? The Onix has had 6 gears since the first generation, and this helps with fuel consumption, especially on the highway.
