OET Speaking Role Play : Nursing (FULL SUB-TEST)
This video was filmed to help candidates familiarise themselves with the format of the Speaking sub-test. In this video you will see an OET Nursing candidate and an interlocutor undertaking the Speaking role-play. (Note: Please find the feedback below) The original task card is located here on our website: Task 1: https://bit.ly/381lTGY Task 2: https://bit.ly/2Mgxfk7 The transcript of the whole role-play is located here: https://bit.ly/2Fxs3T6 While this was filmed for educational purposes, and there is no grade given, we have feedback for this video located here: Feedback for Sample test 1: The candidate initiates the discussion appropriately by clarifying the situation and asking the patient for her feelings about it. She responds appropriately to the patient’s concerns and is very reassuring. She gives relevant information clearly, although she also needs to check periodically that the patient has understood and encourage the patient to contribute her reactions. She sequences the interview logically and summarises the key points. Her pronunciation is easily understood most of the time, with occasional inaccurate stress (injure) and she speaks fluently with only natural hesitation and with generally accurate grammar and vocabulary. Feedback for Sample test 2: The candidate is generally easy to understand, and stress and intonation are used well to show empathy. She demonstrates fluent speech at normal speed, but with some repetition. Her register, tone and lexis are mostly appropriate and occasional errors in grammar are not intrusive. She introduces herself and shows empathy for the parent’s feelings about the delay. She is sympathetic and non-judgemental throughout the interview. She encourages the parent to describe the symptoms but could explore these more effectively by using specific questions and active listening techniques. She explains the procedure clearly, picking up on the patient’s feelings of anxiety and reassuring her. Did you know we have a free preparation page? And that you can purchase a feedback voucher? All of this is located on our website: https://www.occupationalenglishtest.o... Please note: This feedback is for this candidate’s performance but includes some useful description about what has been done well and what could be improved on. You can use this description to think about your own strengths and weaknesses.
