The escalation began on Tuesday (7), after Iranian attacks in the Strait of Hormuz. In response, the United States bombed approximately 170 targets in two days of offensive. This Friday (10), Qatari mediators arrived in Iran in an attempt to contain the crisis. Shipping traffic in the Strait of Hormuz fell by 20% during the week. Even so, the price of oil has fallen in the last two days. The United States announced new sanctions against Iran. The measures primarily target an Iranian businessman identified by Washington as a financier of the regime. The United States also blocked assets of companies and exchange houses accused of moving funds to already sanctioned Iranian banks. At the end of a tense week, information emerged that Israeli intelligence had alerted the United States to a new Iranian plan to assassinate Donald Trump. According to the American press, the threat was considered concrete and led the president's security team to reinforce protection measures. During the NATO summit in Turkey, Trump reiterated that he is the target of threats from Iran.
