Autism and Haircuts: Can Gabe, a Nonverbal Autistic Teen, Overcome His Fear? Ping Makes a House Call

Gabe is an autistic and nonspeaking teen. He has been getting his haircut for years, but he can still be unpredictable. The last two times we tried to bring him to the hair salon, he refused to go inside. This time I asked if his hairdresser could make a house call! We did what we could to prepare Gabe, but he was nervous even being at home. We had spa music playing for him and his favorite drink. It wasn't until Ping arrived that he realized it was safe. He sat in our kitchen and allowed her to give him a major haircut! He even allowed her to use the clippers to completion. He never moved or needed a break which was so unlike him. Practice makes progress, however even with a lot of practice we still cross our fingers that it will go well or even happen.
